Ok people. Yes, there are tons of scams on the internet. Alot of webmasters are running them themselves. Not pointing fingers at any of you because I don't know what sites you promote or how. But how many webmasters say "Join For Free" and it cosigns you to a damn site charging $40 a pop. No AVS's match this description do they? Misleading yes. A scam? Some would call it that. Some wouldn't. All businesses try to sell their product. Nobody advertises "39.95 A Month! Why surf for free content when you can pay me for the same thing?"
I'm not saying smart advertising is directly related to asking for money to help. But if all of your customers had the same attitude towards WEBMASTERS misleading websites I doubt very seriously you would be making the cash you do.
(Why are those terms and conditions so small and hard to read?)
(Why do 90% of billing companies write the part about the monthly rebill in the tiniest of letters?)
My point is you expect people to pull out their wallet, sign up for free somewhere, and hope they don't notice they will be signed up to whatever other site for $40 or that your site rebills at $40 a pop. But you take someone who is asking for a donation whether true or false and berate him for the same thing? What if he is telling the truth and someone dies because so many people were so skeptical that instead of checking it out by calling the people who have offered to talk etc. they just blow it off as a scam and badmouth the person asking. I'm very sure that if they are legit they have references, Doctors, family, hospitals, whatever that would be more than happy to back up the claims.
He didn't ask for $10,000 from you. He asked you to spare whatever you could or wanted. And I quote "anything would help"
As for me, I am going to send what I can with paypal when my upload clears. I don't think he is lying but if he is it will come back to him in the end. It always does.
This makes me think of my friends that jump my ass for giving a homeless person that needs food a few bucks. Yes they could very well be lying but what is a few bucks going to hurt me? If he's lying he will go buy his beer or go hop in his expensive car and go home with tons of money. Big deal, he'll get what he deserves one day and I can go home knowing that if he was telling the truth I gave them a meal or fed their kids. Many times I have given a "beggar" a few bucks only to see them walk into a place to eat and buy food with it. But hey, you would know that if you didn't blow off everyone asking for help as a scam artist trying to fuck you.
Mule, I can't send much as I have tied up a ton of money in investments an so forth the last 2 months. Christmas hit me harder than usual due to my first son who just turned 1. Anyway, I will send what I can when available and good luck to you and your family. My prayers are with you.
