He's got 19k total pts vs Jordan's 32k. Keep in mind that Kobe got a head start by coming out after high school and Jordan also lost time playing baseball. Kobe needs another 5-6 years at a 30pt average per year just to catch Jordan in total points.
The great thing about basketball is that we have the abililty to measure 99% of a players contribution on the court through stats. Jordan leads Kobe in every statistical career average. Jordan has higher career rebound, assist, steal and block averages and fewer turnovers/game. Jordan has a career 50% shooting average while Kobe is at 45% for his career. That single stat alone tells anyone who knows the game who the better scorer is.
At this point, on paper its really not that close and certainly not a fair comparison until Kobe has finished his career. I am by no means a Jordan jocker and agree with you partly in that his brand marketing has kept his name at legendary status. If Kobe can put in another 5-6 solid years you might be able to make the statements you made today. I'm so tired of people trying to compare those in the middle of their careers to those who are out of the game, just wait.
