Yes why wouldn't they? I have a friend who in the past year lost both of his dogs. He had them since they were puppies and they both died at the age of 16. Who would not cry after loving an animal after 16 years? When you love a pet and see it every day, you make a special bond. Not everyone makes that bond, but plenty of us do. I have two dogs that I love very much. They are my babies and I would cry if they passed away. Animals give you love and loyalty. If she is upset by the loss of her cat, then leave her alone. She has every right to cry at her loss.
