go to
www.hotscripts.com and under image galleries.. there are tons of free php scripts that can do just what you want for free they will even generate the thumbnails for you.. all you need to do is drop the php file into the folder with the photos and they will take care of the rest.. (some work this way.. some have more complex instalations.. but thats the basic) there is no way arround that
