Bringing PETA in to stir things around in a politically endangered industry is contemptuous of both what PETA tries to do, and of porn, the hand that feeds you. One of the few political angles porn has going for it is that sex is itself violence neutral, perhaps even violence inhibiting.
I mean sure, it's funny. But it's not a funny enough prank to be worth it.
One of the more detestable things about people who are self-righteous is that they're generally cowards of convenience and proximity- they never actually do anything difficult or go very far out of their way to create justice. They are more likely to spend enormous repetitive energy berating their spouse to vote a certain way than they are to speak in front of a crowd of 100 receptive people who've never heard the issues.

This post doesn't make a lot of sense. PETA claims to stand up for the rights of animals. "Ethical treatment" is built right into their name. Clearly, most of us don't consider flipping a cat in the air and allowing to land on its head to be "ethical" treatment. How is alerting PETA and allowing them to take action contemptuous of PETA or our industry? What, in order to keep out of the spotlight we should just lay low and keep our mouths shut? If we knew of a webmaster who was abusing his child, we would report him, as well. In the very next paragraph, you have the nerve to rail against "cowards" and yet in the first paragraph, you seem to be telling us to keep quiet and not draw attention to ourselves. When it comes down to it, what harm have we done PETA and what harm can they do us? Do you really think PETA has the time, energy or funding to shut down the entire adult internet industry because one fat punk hurt his cat?
As to porn's political angle, I don't see what you seem to see. I haven't noticed porn going for a "violence neutral" stance. Many of the major paysites revolve around "tricking" women into having sex or fucking them extra hard, choking them on cum, blah, blah, blah. I don't see see this new-age kinder gentler porn attitude you are talking about. The only political angle I see in the porn industry is "it's none of your business what I look at."
