PETA would view not petting your cat enough as animal cruelty. That's the same as sending Jesse Jackson a letter saying you weren't hired because you are black, despite the fact that you have a 6th grade education. It will always get the response you're looking for.
Not that I am condoning his actions, just saying PETA will ALWAYS tell you what you want to hear in these cases.
