we have multimillion dollar helicoptors with 12 guys in them being taken down by 2 guys in sandals with a walkie-talkie and a bazooka who are defending their homes and families from the americans

Sounds like a sane comment man - so will comment!

The core problem was probably at the beginning. There was little doubt that Saddam was a thug - the US even allied/engaged him to for that reason to assassinate democratically-elected members of (what was then a stablish Iranian govt) - this backfired and the clerics took over.

Saddam was one of many leaders who were oppressive - sure not the only one - but - the US elected to target him in particular. Not because of any "war on terrorism" - but just to pacify a fetish.

It was known at that time that this was just mind games - otherwise there would have been genuine support/participation from other countries.

Following invasion time, Bush did express on several occasions of "going it alone" with the object of raping that country of assets. That again backfired and the angle then changed to asking for international support.

Considering most of the world was actually against an invasion in the first instance - it's hardly surprising there is little support now.

Tho... at the same time, depending on the situation, got a feeling there is support for certain actions - but not for the core overall invasion or occupancy of that country.

As to 'winning' - there are no real winners. Sure the war as far as the US is concerned was lost the day it started - these same people have been fighting off invaders for centuries in their sandals. Russia tried in Afghanistan and went home. It has been the same for almost all "invaders" in that region - and matters little about "military might" - they never last the pace.
