If it makes you feel any better, my sister is a doctor and when she did her ER rotation, for residency, she said this was way more common than anyone would think. She heard stories from other doctors of fishing out golf balls, screwdrivers, shot glasses, etc.
Just remember that although it's embarrassing, the doctors have seen much much worse.
