Could have been a lot worse if many of the students carried guns.
Plain and simple guns are out of control in the states, the law in the constitution was made ages ago when there was not a LARGE LARGE military that we have today, and there was still a large threat of many people invading us soil to claim that land there own. If no one could get a gun, why would we need one to protect ourselves.

Pandora's box has already been open, you can't stop the proliferation of firearms. By ensuring that citizens with the legal right to carry firearms has shown to be the biggest detriment to crime in the US.
Florida has a reciprocal CCW license with Virginia, if you pass backround tests, you will get a concealed permit (CCW). The laws are similliar, you cannot carry onto a school campus.
Which doesn't matter one bit to a physcho who decides he wants to shoot everyone dead.
Why do you think shootings happen in places that you can't carry a gun in to protect yourself?!
Schools
Goverment Buildings
Post Offices
No one there can shoot back.
