If the price was agreed in US$, then it should be his problem (would he lower it if the $ was strong).

I had the same thing in Hungary a couple of times. I rented in Euro's and when the exchange rate was bad, the landlord would be giving me stories about how though things were for him.

Of course when the exchange was good, he never said a thing.
