I think there are a lot of girls out there curious about working in the biz. Some may even be curious about shooting b/g and have only done posing.
In cases where it is *not* a pressing money issue, comfort means more than the rate you pay.
If a girl is desperate for cash, well, we see why Max Hardcore can find models on a regular basis.
I have never met a girl who had a set in stone fee. Even if I don't hire someone, I will try to negotiate with them, and it always comes down significantly. Especially for website stuff, and especially if we have had a decent rapport.
I never did shoot Taylor Lynn, because my content is aimed at a savvier amateur audience that would have known it was bullshit if they had seen her on my site.
I would rather spend the time weeding out all the wanna-be porn stars who call me, in search of the girls who ultimately aren't going to shoot for very many people. Not only are their prices lower, but there is much more value in the content I shoot since no other sites will have it.
I dealt with agencies when I first started, and it made less sense to pay the extra fees and the like and have a guarantee that the girl would be everywhere. Met some cool people, but wasn't worth it.
I wish I had more of a budget or need to shoot right now--even if I were willing to travel just California, I could be shooting many girls who have never worked in the biz before paying $150-$250 a scene. If I travelled the country, could probably find enough new girls to do it on an ongoing basis.
Though I will say that prices go up a tad outside of So. Cal--down here, the competition is insane.
I pay a bit more when I shoot in Northern California, and I am shocked to hear stories from models who have shot with other companies up there--there are few standards, no loosely knit group, and word rarely gets around about a bad site or photographer. Rather unfortunate, if you ask me... probably gets a lot of girls out as soon as they get in.
