Joe may be smarter than some of us think. "Meaningful settlement" is a vague concept. If he walked out because the plantiffs offered the equivalent of him "shooting himself in the head" then who is actually at fault...
Him for walking out or the plantiff for unreasonable offers?
The judge may have shown predjudice if he didn't review all the facts of the negotiation.
