I just read I am chauncy's signature and was thinking about it.
"Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity."
Karl Marx
At first I thought that it was right, but then I realized that it applies to business theory in a whole other way. While it is true that you can sell a man a fish, teaching him to fish is still better. Not because he can then provide for himself, but because you can now:
- Sell him an over priced rod and reel
- Sell him books on where to fish
- Sell him guide services
- sell him 'the only lure' to use
- Produce shows so he can watch other people catch fish he never will
- Produce fish to stock lakes for him to catch
And the list goes on...
