I have an R/C Monster truck that hauls ass. Last winter we took it up to our cottage in the middle of michgian. They just plowed the snow and the pile was about 7 feet high. I was giving it full throttle and jumping the 7 foot high snow drift. The truck would come down and keep going. It kicks ass.
I know there are R/C helicopters with training skids that you can get to help ensure proper balance and landings to make things a little easier when you fly them. It is like a big X attached to the skids on the bottom and it is weighted. You might want to look for one of those.
The cool thing with R/C is that if you buy the right stuff you can re-use some of it if you want to do something else. I know with my truck I can take most of the parts and use it on a boat for instance if I wanted to build a boat.
It's pretty fun, but I would definitely get gas powered , they last longer typically, but I believe you still have to wait for the motor to cool. I have a battery powered one and it moves out pretty good, but I have to have 3 batteries going and 2 chargers if I want to have fun with it continuously.
