I would have to say that you get what you pay for.
I don't eat at quick places. If I want something quick I make a sandwich. Or go to 7-11. They have remarkably good tasting chicken salad sandwiches.
But if I want to eat out I always go to more posh places to eat and tip accordingly and get what I want. I want to be greeted. The guy or gal at the front door should know both me and my GF by name and they should ask about our kids. They get tipped. The waiters are tipped. If it is a Teppan restaurant the chef is also tipped (separately).
When my friends dine with me and my GF they really trip out. "Wow, they know your name and bring you your drinks without you even asking (before we are seated/at the bar). The TV is automatically switched to the Laker game or Angels game or Dodgers or what ever is on that night and we have previously requested.
When someone at a sports bar gets in my face (once I didn't even know the guy behind me was cocking his fist to cheap shot me in the back of the head) they are escorted outside and/or thrashed by the staff immediately.
Tipping is important. Remember that bitch has a shitty life. I would have brightened her day so that if I am ever in there again she would remember who I am....
