True friends are possible, but they certainly aren't the easiest to find, and I'd think he is right in assuming it's getting harder. Lots of people will hang out with you, and are cool to be around, but when the time comes that you really need them a fair number won't be there for you. Perhaps just my experience, but in my whole life I'd rate only a few people as true friends.
