I know this because i concentrate heavily in CPC advertising (outside the adult world... aka mainstream). I know numerous people who do this and try and make a fortune. ive seen a lot of the "how to's" to making a few bucks off adsence. most people who do this for a living make between 5 and 10% of their revenue each month.

I did this for a few months to bring in a few extra bucks and its a pain in the ass game. the secret... find clicks that are cheaper than what you get paid for the adsence click (25% of click is ideal).

So, if you get paid $1.00 per click on adsence, find kw's that are $.25 (so if you have a 1:4 CTR on your campaign, you break even). its pretty easy if you know some of the "secrets" of adwords and how to get lots of cheap clicks and drive them to a page that has a good roi on ansence.
