The difference between Europe and North America is that European fruits, vegetables are close to being pesticide-free, the meat and poultry aren't all injected with growth hormones to grow & reproduce faster.
No matter what you eat in Europe, it dances on your pallette, while in North America, you'll find an abundance, but with little flavor (unless you add lots of seasonings/creams/salt/oil).
As much as Europeans eat, they get a lot more exercise - Life is more expensive (cars/gas), space is limited in most countries so people actually walk/cycle to work rather than drive.
Although North Americans are weight obsessed - it's an obsession 'after the fact' - meaning the market is driven by people wanting a solution to 'lose weight' whereas Europeans are obsessed on the 'preventative' side - they want products that will help them maintain their weight or take off the few kg they gained.
