What kind of services would be used?... email, icq, driving directions, showtimes, posting on gfy, etc.

Regarding "standard" screens - when i walk down the street or go into a coffee shop or whatever, 95% of the mobile device users i see are using what I call a standard screen. 2" x 2" at best. And what I'm wondering is if the web experience at such a screen size is such a turn-off that it makes people resistant to fire up their browser and go to your site no matter how friendly you make YOUR site. In other words, overcoming the resistance built up from the crappy small screen experience to even bother trying your site, no matter how small-screen friendly it is.
