I agree with you on the Les Paul part, but having both a LP and a Tele is definitely the best of both worlds. One thing I like about Fenders is that their MIM (Made in Mexico) line costs about what the Epiphones (Korean made Gibson copies) do with much higher quality. My 50's Classic Tele is one of the best guitars I've ever had which isn't bad for $400. But if I had a choice of any guitar it would definitely be an LP Standard with the Gibson '76 Explorer a very close second.
