i personally use nero vision express
works good, it just takes some time to code it into a readable dvd format for any dvd player.

a 2 gig avi took me 2 hours and a half to turn to dvd

forgot to add:
it doesnt need to transform it to mpeg before turning it to dvd
you just set it up (easy, very user friendly)
and it does everything by itself
