The long term idea isn't "no carbs" it is "the right amount of carbs". it is very low carb to start with, but over time, you add carbs back in and work on weight maintenance. You choose your carbs carefully, don't eat empty ones, balance it against fiber, and you are pretty much good to go.
After I hit my bottom number, I added carbs and stuff until I started to come back up, managed it well, and now I am stable. I know if I want to take 5 - 10 pounds off in a short amount of time, I could do it.
No processed foods, no high fructose corn syrups, and no big empty carb runs, and life is good. I just played badminton for 2.5 hours tonight, not an issue, still full of energy, and that is hard work.
