Thomas Aloysius McCarney faces a number of charges in court after bringing a donkey to a Galway hotel, along with pair of handcuffs and being dressed in a latex suit. These charges include the damage the donkey allegedly did when it went berserk during the night.
Ms Sharon Fitzhenry, McCarney's solicitor, told the court that he had been in counselling and was advised to "get out and meet people" which led him to bringing the donkey to a hotel. It was also revealed that McCarney has an obsession with "Shrek".
Receptionist Irina Legova said that Mr McCarney had told her that the donkey was a breed of "super rabbit" which he was bringing to a pet fair in the city. He was fined ?2,000 under the Unlawful Accommodation of Donkeys Act 1837.
