I have and use the Q
it's "okay"
Basically, the blackberry SUCKS and I mean is completely worthless, at voice. Yes, a bunch of BB lovers will contradict that, but I've had them, people in the office have them (and swear by them) but I swear to god you can't understand a damned thing anyone is saying unless they are in a silent room. If they are in a bar/club/outside/datacenter/walking you may as well give up trying to talk on them.
That said, BB kicks the living shit out of the Q at e-mail and text handling. Basically, I got the Q since it's voice is superb (likely one of the best voice phones I've ever had), and it also does e-mail as a bonus.
You will be much happier (same with BB) if you can interface with an Exchange server for push e-mail, but it does minimal IMAP (and I guess pop3) support as well. It's definitely nice to have, and the keyboard is good.
All in all, it's a decent voice phone (real handy to sync contacts/calendar w/ the exchange server) and so-so at e-mail. If you want a phone first, and a PDA second, it's a great choice.
If you want a PDA first, and a phone second the blackberry beats it by leaps and bounds. All depends on your requirements. Also, since vzw doesn't do any of the cool BB's it was a no-brainer. I refuse to use anyone else for service, as everyone else's networks here (midwest) are absolute shit in comparison.
