Most people DO have herpes 1 or 2, doctors don't test for it anymore when you go get a STD screening because they say they don't want to "alarm people". You have to ask for a HSV test seperately to get one, and you have to know which kind of test to INSIST on or they will give you the cheap innacurate test by default. (talking about general practitioners, not porn docs).
Yes you can catch TYPE 1 and II HSV from oral/genital contact, so if your partner has genital herpes Type II and you stick her vagina in your mouth, you can end up with type II in your mouth and vice versa.
This isn't scare tactics, it's medical knoledge.
Statistically your chance of catching if you are negative and they are positive but not having an outbreak is less than 10%, with Valtrex your chances drop to 2%.
HPV is genital warts, totally different ballgame.
