i would think it would depend on your usage.

If you need a PDA type of phone, a phone that you use for just making calls, or one that you do text messaging on. The new blackberry is nice for the PDA type phone, the Razr has been a good phone for me and is good for primarily making phone calls, which is my most common usage ( i never seem to use much more than making phone calls and text messaging on any phone and as such a PDA is a waste for me).. The draw back on the Razr is that it is not as good with it's keypad for text messaging as Nokia is.

My recs:
PDA Phone: Blackberry
Regular Phone: Razr
Phone for calls/heavy texting: Nokia

That being said, T-Mobile's phones are Simm Card phones. So essentially you can buy any Simm card phone from around the world, make sure you get it unlocked so you can use it with any Simm Card, and voila!, you can use your T-Mobile Simm card in that phone, thusly you are not strictly limited to using only T-Mobile Phones.
