Ok, let me go into my "every day persona" mode for a minute to address this.

Yes, I'm gay, but not "BoyAlley" gay. In my everyday life, none of you would be able to recognize that either my partner or myself is gay. We're just your average everyday acting guys. We don't prance, we don't lisp, and neither of us are what some call "effeminate" homosexuals.

"BoyAlley" however, is indeed a marketing persona. Playing up the gay stereotypes to extremes, and having fun with it, goes a long way.

Through all of the ridiculousness, humor, political incorrectness, and clowning around is indeed a base in business. When I first got into the industry I looked at GFY and took it for what it was, then devised a strategy that I felt would work with it considering my market.

Is it a "very bad marketing gimmick"? I think the very fact that you showed my posts to some of your friends goes to demonstrate the effectiveness of what it is I do on GFY.

There are a lot of gay people that post on GFY actually, but whenever the topic of "gays" comes up, you'll notice my name is the one that's mentioned time and time again. That's called branding and marketing.

I've used that brand to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity over the past 6 months, and to create a robust affiliate base for my own little program. Since I'm relatively new to the industry, I've also used it to help open doors and business relationships that probably wouldn't have taken place otherwise.

Those that only see me on GFY are either annoyed or entertained (I suspect it's a pretty healthy mix of both), but those that I do business with on a regular basis know that I am indeed a serious business man, with a long history of successful entrepreneurship.

Now, to get back into character:
