A lot of people haven't been exposed to these things and don't have the luxury of understanding what to expect from certain groups.
It only takes one incident to scar someone and put them on the 'cautious' level about specific groups of people which in turn makes them a borderline "racist" to anyone else... its sad but its human nature.

You know, I just thought about this for a second and it started to dawn on me. My niece really doesn't have any regular exposure to black people on any level. St Clairsville is overwhelmingly white, and she has maybe 2 black kids in her school. She has met my old roommate a couple of times on Thanksgiving and she really likes him, but other than that zero life experience towards blacks. This incident is really how the whole cycle gets started...
