First off, Im sorry that happened to you. That was unacceptable.
I don?t know about the other post here, but I am a black male, so I?m talking from life experience. Our people are first to scream racism because we do indeed experience it every day. I?m not being heckled and sprayed with water hoses like older generations, but racism has evolved. It?s not just a so called redneck with a confederate flag on his truck. It can be the oriental cultures moving into our communities and getting rich off of us but yet despise us. It can be the all-American white male that gets the admiration in the work place over a well deserving black man just because he's a "good ol boy". We experience it on a daily basis whether we know it or not because racism lies in the shadows.
Now, I must say, a growing majority of my people are some of the most racist people on the face of this earth. Some have a valid reason to be, some don?t. A lot of them piggy back off of what happened to our ancestors and some have actually experienced it. For example, if you were young and continuously were dumped/disrespected by females you admired, wouldn?t it be most likely that you would develop harsh/degrading feelings for women in general because of the actions of a select few? It happens everyday.
Also society isn?t exactly helping either. African American men of prominence are rarely exalted in the media anymore even though we are continuing to make achievements in every field. Turn on the TV. We don?t have a MLK type figure out there. We have 50 cent. Come on...with if a generation of white people only had Kid Rock to look up to? We would be talking about violent white males then.....Unless you?re rapping, catching footballs or dunking basketballs, what positive role models do our young people have? It?s a crisis we are dealing with in our own communities.
Moral of the story, it?s not a cliché. You can?t judge a group by the actions of a select few. You experienced a bad crop of young attitudes. I?ve experienced racist white, Asian, etc. but I choose to beef with those specific people, NOT the race. Racism is a cycle. If you choose to keep your opinions of a whole race, there's a 95% chance you?re going to pass it to your children. The cycle continues.
