They do make a big difference. I bought a SONY 46" LCD and an HD Home Theater DVD system a week ago, when I bought it I didn't realize how expensive the cables and stuff was going to be.

I not only have to upgrade my cable box to a HD digital cable box but also spent another $400 on just HDMI and Fiberoptic cables. If you are using an LCD screen you will see pixaltion on non digital channels if you use S video or component, but using HDMI will fix that problem. Aleast it did for me.

You can buy the monster HDMI cables for abut $49.99 , they well fine.
