Yes, your cable or satellite provider will have a select number of channels that are in high definition. As long as you are subscribed to that part of their service and you have an HDTV, then you will see those channels in high definition. If you don't subscribe to any service then you would need to make sure your TV has a built in HD tuner ( which most of the decent ones do) in order to view HD programming from your local stations.
