When I was in the military, we used Coke cans as disposable pipes...you flattened one side of the can and poked holes in it to put the smoke on and punched a carborater whole in the bottom of the can. Once you were finished, you crunched the can and tossed it in the dumpster.



For hash, you pushed a pin through a flat piece of cardboard, then put a piece of hash on the pin - your would light the hash, extinguish the flame, and quickly place a glass over it trapping the smoke. Carefully lifting up an edge of the glass you would inhale the accumulated smoke and replace the glass to trap smoke for the next person. When done, you simply disposed of all of the litter.

As Frank Zappa knew, necessity is indeed the mother of invention...
