I've read a lot about this case. How it came to light is that there was a girl at the party who had sex with some guy while drunk then woke up the next morning, realized she was in trouble for not going home and told her parents she had been raped. The catch is that her entire little escapade is on tape so all the rape charges were thrown out. This kid, however was on camera getting a blowjob and they decided to go after him. They offered him 5 years and he turned it down. The jury found him guilty because there was no way of fighting it, he admitted it, the girl said she even initiated it, but the law is the law. however, the jury didn't realize he would get 10 years and they were pretty pissed about it. The judge told them they could write a letter, but there was nothing more they could do.
The prosecutor, the girl involved, all the parents of the kids in the situation, pretty much everyone but the judge thinks it never should have made it to court and he should not be in prison, but the judge won't set aside the verdict. The kid just went to the Georgia state supreme court and they voted 4-3 not to hear the case. The 4 that voted against him are white, the 3 that voted for him are black, however they all agree that he probably shouldn't be in jail over this - they agree he shouldn't be there, but they refuse to do anything about it. He has a few steps left and eventually can petition the US supreme court, but for that he basically has to make it a federal civil rights case. In that same state recently there was a teacher that had sex with a student - a real case of child molestation - and she only got 90 days. This kids life is ruined for getting a blowjob at a party. It's sad.
