I'm not that successfull, but I know php, java, javascript and of course css and html and I have a collegedegree to back that up if there's anyone who dares doubt me. Although my diploma is for business administration, I concentrated on computer sciences.
Basically you NEED to know what to do, it's not enough if you know how to do it. I chat quite often with a very talented coder, and he's fucking pissed off at being able to code almost everything that's already out there, and could do so much more..but doesn't know what he should do in order to make money.
This is how it goes, and you pretty much need all 3 in my humble opinion:
Idea + talent to do it + marketing = money
