KUDOS and CONCERNS.....
Kudos to the entire xBiz crew for putting this together. There is no doubt in my mind that an open flow of communications will result in more knowledge and, as everyone knows, knowledge equals power.
Those of you that were not around in the early days will remember when this entire industry was scared to death of the credit card companies. We all wanted to "fly under their radar". This level of thinking is what AMEX used to pull out of the space altogether and why Master Card was very quickly following in their footsteps. It took a couple of very smart guys (namely Ron Cadwell and Chris Mallick) to look Visa square in the eyes and say "We want to be good customers and solid citizens...how do we do it?". From that point, we learned how to play in their sand box and make money together.
Again....this is FANTASTIC news for our entire industry.....as long as.......
Here comes my concerns....
In an open forum I am going to be very afraid that some of the "less professional" individuals from our industry will be the ones in the Q&A sessions with the loudest voices. I, for one, do not want them speaking for or on behalf of me or my company. Because it will be an open forum, I think we all owe it to each other to make sure that if we see that beginning to happen that we speak up and try to keep the panel a professional one on both sides of the equation. Let's make sure that the voices that are heard are ones with long term industry gains in mind and not short term, personal gains as the agenda.
Just my $.02
