Anything by Quentin Tarantino or David Lynch, including the Four Rooms.
Also, try and find "Until the End of the World" (one of my favorite movies ever). The commercially released version was nearly 3 hours long, but the Director's Cut (which I have not seen yet) is five hours long.
Lair of the White Worm is pretty trippy.
Although it is quite sad, the visuals and story in What Dreams May Come are powerful.
For costuming, sets, etc. I really liked Bram Stoker's Dracula (by Coppola), and Interview with the Vampire. Another lesser known but interesting Coppola film is Mishima.
Being John Malkovich will twist you up pretty good too...
Finally, if you have never seen it, check out Koyaanisqatsi - Life Out of Balance. It contains no dialogue or narrative - but it will take you on an incredible visual and musical trip (music courtesy of Philip Glass), and you will find new meanings in it every time.
Happy Trails,
