Over-hyped doesn't begin to describe it.
The $200k flowers.mobi sale started the price increase phase, but that is a very specific domain tailored for a very special act most of us men have had to do in our lives, and it's still a big gamble. That one has a chance, even at that price. Most other .mobi domains are worthless, unless they meet similar characteristics of last minute mobile phone use.
Taking a look at the example above, what urgency is there to get an invoice on your mobile phone? The answer is "not much", making invoice.mobi relatively worthless. Sorry.
