When you are in the business of building relationships and being a friend, mentor, partner to your clients this can happen quite easily. Part of the overall delay was that my expectations were set for continued phone conversation and follow up so that we could best tailor an ongoing solution for them. I was expecting to discount the balance and put them in a more aggressive plan and I told them as much over the phone so I delayed on generating some invoices until we worked the details out.
But yes, it's a long time to let a bill go unpaid without disconnecting services. We always do work with our clients pretty closely when they need extended terms, but this instance is far from the norm.
