Giving out swag to "everybody" that walks up is a waste of time and money and is money you will not recoup. It attracts the wrong kind of customer.
Sure you will gain some affiliates doing it, but those affiliates will be newbies who don't have experience or traffic (or both) and cultivating (which is the polite way of saying holding their hands) them is too long of a process.
You would be FAR better served to do your homework before the show and know who you would like to gain as a new affiliate with both traffic AND experience and are attending the show. This allows you (since they have traffic/experience) to gain immediate sales and build a profitable and lasting relationship.
Doing something such as the LightSpeed Jersey (with their name/nickname - it shows you care) on the back will get you "seen" on the show floor when they wear the gift.
Have a quiet place you can speak to them in the corner of your booth (or better yet, your room) to give it to them and discuss what you need to discuss with them.
Giving out 30-50 Jerseys like this is so much more productive than handing out a ton of anything else.
