Man back when I went more to the clubs and hung out with the crowds the coolest people there were the older ones who'd been through the crap bullshit showoff stuff and had settled into what they felt was most comfortable to them. When I was in my early 20s I respected those people more than anyone else in the scene.
Now I'm 33 and I don't paint my nails anymore, lol (well not too often) but like those older people I used to respect I've now settled into my own comfort level. I just moved back to Orlando from Seattle and I'm hooking up with some old friends from the scene, and they pretty much feel the same.
There's really nothing for you to get. You either do or don't. I wouldn't sweat it.
