Well there's a hard core of truth in the whole thing. I can imagine that when you're living in, say, nabraska or something, and all your neighbours are american, all you see on tv and all you hear on the radio is american, and you never hear anything else than american english, you get a very unilateral view of the world, a view that also is totally US-centred. Information that may sound relevant to the rest of the world is irrelevant to most americans, and may thus just be forgot.

A nation that doesn't know its place in the world and that is grossly unable to adapt to its environment is a lost case imo.
