It's really not a deal with pronunciation. Saying tomato or tuh-mah-toe is essentially the same thing... you are not adding anything to the word. It's like some people pronounce Hurricane 'Her-Uh-Kin'. Saying ATM Machine is adding a word that absolutely doesn't need to be there since Machine is already included in ATM.
