I do agree - do it yourself
but unless its drywall, you'll have to go the route of Ray - chase out the wall, put the wires through a protection tube then plaster over. All very cheap, though $40 for paint is a major underestimation... every time I do shit like that and paint over the bit of plaster, it shows that the entire room needs repainting and what was an hour job turns into a major weekend headache and earbashing from the wife on what colour to repaint in
