Well, Einstein's theories have shown us that as speeds increase, time slows down. Basically you travel through "time" at the speed of light. 300,000 km/s.
When you travel through "space" at any sort of speed, you are taking away from how fast you're travelling through time.
If aliens had developed a way to travel through space close to the speed of light, certainly they would have developed a method of stasis for their bodies. Assuming they have done these both, yes, it is very possible that they could be visiting us and not have FTL travel.
Wormholes and such... well... keep in mind in the last 70 years we have seen Dr Bohr's atomic theory develop and blossom, unfortunately for us it's merely ended up with more questions and less answers. At this stage nobody is able to sit back and say what a race 1000 years beyond our technology could be capable of, let alone 100,000 years...
Plus I haven't reached that chapter in The Fabric of Reality yet :P
