nah, I get it, and I like Cash. I just think it pales in comparison to the original. And, altho I am a bit touched by it, I also have a feeling that he doesn't totally identify with the lyrics and it's more somber then his natural style. For example, he changed the line "crown of shit" to "crown of thorns"
Rick Rubin picked out all these edgy songs for Cash to cover and his production is what brings out the starkness and sadness of the song too. I think Rubin is the best producer on the planet right now. I like Cash all right, it's just when some stupid kids say "I don't want to hear anything about NIN, this is all about Cash's song, Hurt"

Respect. The cover is well-performed and well-produced, but it's a COVER. It's like the Dixie Chicks covering Stairway to Heaven - yea, they might do a fine job, but it's still not Led Zeppelin.
