You don't want have 2 browsers open side by side, or have another application A running on one side, while application B is running on the other side?
I think running 2 applications side by side (or 2 windows of the same application side by side) increases productivity. I've been using dual display setup for awhile and I don't want to go back to a single display. However, these new widescreen monitors allow you to achieve the same results (i.e., run 2 applications side by side), so widescreen displays make sense to me.
