Saddam perhaps should have been punished, in some way, surely. But in that case so should many other world leaders, Bush, Putin, Blair, for some popular examples.
Capital punishment is such a barbaric way of dealing with people. It solves no problems whatsoever.

Well, if you disagree with capital punishment there isn't much to discuss. A belief in capital punishment or not is just a statement about how you wish the world to be. It can't be decided by reason. Only by "how I want the world to be" or maybe by "popular opinion".
There is no "fair" in world politics. Saddam was on the wrong the side of history.
