A lot of people say they like the Dyson because it picks up what their other vacuum didn't, but IME, EVERY vacuum does that. I have to vacuum at least 3 times (I wait until the chamber stops picking anything up) before I shampoo the carpet.

We used to go through one of them eureka "pet" vacuums every 4 months (thank god for costco return policy), then we got the dyson pet and its been very well worth it. It even gets the hair off the microfiber couch, used to have to use a lint roller.
