I would get
Mysql 4.1 and the gui tools as well from the official mysql site. The gui tools are handy to backup and create new users, etc... To view data
CocoaMysql is a really handy tool. Many unix things are already install (e.g., ssh, zip, etc...) and MacPorts.org has everything else that you'll need.
Also,
TextMate is a very nice text/programming editor. It completely rolls the competition.

Yes, it's has mutliple user accounts. What also cool, is you can having your account running, and if your spouse, or whoever has an account on your computer, wants to check their email, or print a letter, you can do this "Fast user switching" thing that was introduced several years ago. It's explained
here. It's pretty cool.
