And therein lies the biggest problem in getting good candidates, IMO. The press will dig up every single thing you did since pre-school. EVERYONE has a skeleton in their closet. I'm sure there are many qualified people who would run and would be good but they cheated on their wife back in 1982 or touched a classmates pecker in middle school.
Amazing how the press has changed. The JFK/RFK Marilyn Monroe thing was SO underpublished in accordance to today's standards. Ditto with Roosevelt's polio. In fact, the press was instructed to take pictures of him in angles that wouldn't reflect he was in a wheel chair. He was VERY sick (as was JFK) for years before the public knew about it.
GWB's cholesterol spikes and it's front page news. Very few people would be willing to run based on the intense personal life scrutiny, IMO.
